Douro Valley, Portugal 🇵🇹

It is always a good idea to go travelling at the beginning of a year. 🙂 Here we introduce you a great vacation place, magnificent and fresh –> The Douro Valley in Porto, Portugal!

Porto is the second largest city of Portugal, and in it, the Douro Valley is like heaven for wine lovers🍷, natural lovers , book lovers📚 and historical lovers.

The Upper Douro Valley is the heart of the world’s oldest demarcated wine region. There are many Quintas (wineries) where tourists love to stop by and try the wines and tour the vineyards. One of them is Quinta do Bomfim, which has been opened to visitors from May 2015.

🍇Here is a brief intro of Quinta do Bomfim:

Visitors are able to appreciate the rich heritage of this vineyard whilst visiting the winery and the old wine cellar, or they may enjoy a walk through the vineyards. Tastings are available of family-made Ports and Douro DOC wines on the terrace with breathtaking views of the river and the surrounding vineyards.

Visitors begin their tour inside an old winery now converted into a small museum, which displays the interwoven story of the property, the family and wine. Visitors may choose between three vineyard walks and ascend the vineyard terraces where they will be rewarded with outstanding views of the surrounding mountain vineyards and of the beautiful dry stone terraces, many built by hand over 150 years ago.

🌱The weather is very fresh in January, around 7ºc -14ºc, which will make you feel relaxed when having your trip.

🚁Travel Tips:

🌄 Enjoy the magnificent view of Douro Valley and the river from the top of the hills.

🌄 Choose a favourite hotel before going there e.g. Six Senses 🏡, it aims at “eat local” that it provides very traditional and local food, must-try: pão de ló (a delicious light and airy textured sponge cake)

🌄 Go to Pinhão for a 2-hour scenic boat cruise on the Douro in a traditional Rabello boat. You would learn history of this place while viewing the beautiful valley along the river.

🌄 Visit some wineries e.g. Quinta do Bomfim (as mentioned before, the newly opened one), Quinta de la Rosa, Pacheca, and Tedo.

🌄 Have a ride on the 🚂 Douro historic train You can combine the ride on the historic train with a return trip from anywhere in the country. There are partnerships with hotels and car parks for the users of the historic train.

🌄 Try a visit along the Port Wine route 🍷

🌄 If you love book, especially Harry Potter⚡, you need to go to the bookstore: Lello & Irmao, where JK Rowling got inspired from. (💫 It just like a magic place✨!)
